Can we make a comparison on media outlets?

The main mission of the media should be informing the public rightly. As a result of this, the primary responsibility for the owners of the media establishments should also be related with this mission. However, the managers also have trading, industrial and banking businesses which gives them the opportunity to use media for their own profit. Addition to this, the managers reflect the topics for their own benefit and this makes media became distant from its reliability. Moreover, this situation brings out a competition between media establishments because of the owners who uses their opportunities for their own good. My opinion is that the managers should separate their businesses clearly from media. On the other hand, the other reasons that weaken the reliability of media are giving place to wrong reports and distorting or exaggerating the news in order to raise their rating. Actually the reporters are responsible for this but as they are way too depended to the managers because of money they ignore it. All in all it is hard to make a strict distinction between television, radio or newspapers. That’s because if we look at Turkey today we can see that the majority of television establishments and newspaper establishments have the same owner. Thus, we can say that the organs which are sharing the same owner make the same publishing. Consequently, we can’t compare the reliability of different organs but we can compare the reliability of the establishments.

Influence of Media

As far as i’m concerned media has an influence on our daily life and even on our personalities. First of all if we look at outlets of media like newspapers, magazines and especially tv programmes, we can see that they have significant roles on our gender identity.   The male and female models that depicted by media usually have the resemblance with their stereotypes. For example, while women are depicted as sex objects men are usually the strong individuals. Thus, that brings out an atmosphere where women are depended on men. Moreover, the media is the biggest factor which combined the blonde women with stupidness. In addition to this, there is even a film named Legally Blonde which based on this discrimination. Besides, commercials are also having a major influence on our daily life. Comparing the media outlets, my opinion is that the television has the most drastic effects as in terms of influence. On the other hand women magazines can be accepted as a different category. A huge percentage of women, especially unemployed women and housewives, are obviously effected by women magazines. Yet, there are women who are trying to live their life closer to the directions they read. In spite of these, newspapers and radio channels seem to be the least influential media outlets.

A rose for Emily

It was a weird story. In the class we talked about emily’s characteristic and we assumed her as a strong woman but i don’t agree. I think she is too pesimistic. As she doesn’t go out it shows that she doesn’t have the courage to start a new leaf on life which makes her desperate. If we compare the story with normal life my opinion is that people won’t exaggerate this event as Emily did. I mean everyone will eventually lose someone they care, i know it is hard and i can’t even imagine what kind of a person i will become but this shouldn’t be the attitude.

Is music piracy stealing?

When we watched the short film about film piracy ofcourse it wasn’t the first time i watched it. However, i can remember the first time i watched it. Firstly, i was a little impressed, but the end of the day it didn’t keep me from downloading music illegally. Thus, i don’t think music piracy is stealing. In the article of Charles Moore, i believe that his major supporting point is that there is no different between music piracy and photocopying pages from books or any copyrighted material. If we accept music piracy as stealing the effort of the singer, than it would be worse copying the text which people give their hours to write. In my opinion the writer also has a good point on taping movies or series from tv as there is no difference than downloading music.
